The students have been working on their writing skills and looking more specifically at the parts of speech. We read a story in class called "Falcon" and the author did a good job describing the Falcon using adjectives and verbs. The students each picked an animal and created their own poem using verbs and adjectives. They then used water colour paints to create their animal.
This week the students did an experiment and answered the question, "Do shadows change throughout the course of the day?" They used a flashlight to represent the sun for this experiment. Ask your child what they concluded? When are shadows the shortest? Longest?
Check out the art that we made for Acorn Fundraising. If you are interested in ordering one of their products with your child's art, please fill in the order form and return the picture and form to school. The deadline to order is Thursday October 27th. For more information you can visit their website at: https://acornschoolfundraising.com/
We have been learning about Figurative Language in class. More specifically we have been looking at similes and metaphors. The students chose a simile or metaphor they liked or they made one up on their own and then they illustrated it using watercolours.
This week we met our Kindergarten buddies for the first time. We helped them finish up an Art project in the Learning Commons. It was really nice meeting them and we look forward to helping them throughout the school year.
This week we did an experiment called "The Mystery of the Unbroken Pencil." The students learned about refraction. Ask them what they learned. You can try similar experiments like this at home too.
We have been working through our Numeration unit in Math this past week. The students learned a new game that reinforces Place Value. Ask your child how this game is played. You could even play this game at home with a deck of cards and you could create your own Place Value mat.
Take a look at room 7's beautiful art this week. These took quite a bit of focus and precision, but they turned out really nice! Ask your child how they created it.
This week the students did an experiment to find out how light travels? Ask your child what they found out from this experiment? What was their conclusion?
