Take a look at our mobiles. The students did a fabulous job creating some of their favourite characters and turning them into mobiles. They have had so many compliments from other teachers and students!! Well done room 7!
The students have been learning about the stories of Alberta's past. They looked at our First Nations groups and read about how they lived off the land. They researched how important the buffalo were to their way of life. They then created these beautiful story robes using symbols. They turned out great.
The students created these colourful pieces of art that included their name and five other things that represent them. They turned out really well.
The students had fun completing upcycling projects in class. They created a plan with a variety of materials and then they brought in recycled items from home. The students spent the afternoon building their projects and they turned out really well. We then did a gallery walk in class so they could share their projects with eachother. Have a look at the final projects.
We read Hana's Suitcase in class this month and it was a very powerful story. The students were very engaged in this book and felt many emotions while learning the story of Hana Brady. We then went on a field trip to Storybook Theatre to see Hana's Suitcase play. It was really well done and it was good for the students to learn about History. It was a story of family love and tragedy and although it was a shameful time in history, the students learned about tolerance, respect and hope for the future.
The students also did response entries in their visual journals on certain parts or scenes from the story and play. They did an excellent job capturing significant parts in the story and explaining their choices. April showers bring May flowers. We have had a lot of rain and even snow during the month of April this year. The students did a still life drawing of some tulips in a vase that I brought Into the classroom. They then used water colour paints to finish them off. They turned out great and they bring lots of colour to the hallway.
This month was my birthday and the students threw me a surprise party. When I came into the classroom in the morning they had turned out the lights and yelled SURPRISE!! They were wearing party hats and had brought gifts for me. It was so thoughtful of the class and they completely made my day. I even had some happy tears. I want to thank all the students and parents for making my birthday this year so special.
Take a look at our self portraits. The students did a great job sketching all of the details on their face. Can you guess which child is yours?
Take a look at the beautiful food chains the students created. We learned about producers, consumers and decomposers in class. Then the students created their own food chains and included all three of these things. They also learned about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. Ask your child to explain how their food chain works.
